About Maggie Joe

Maggie Joe is our premier boat, a 53' sportfisher custom designed and built for fishing in Hawaiian waters. Designed by John and Ed DeRego, she was built by Hoquiam Boat Works in Seattle, WA and made the long journey across the Pacific to Hawaii.

Maggie Joe has many notable catches and lots of exciting stories in her history. Her largest fish ever is a 1277 lb. Pacific Blue Marlin in 1993.

Many of our customers leave with fond memories of successful fishing on the Maggie Joe. Shown here is a 520 lb. Blue Marlin caught by Capt Mike, Paul and Chris.

Maggie Joe consistently ranked among the top charter boats voted by teams participating in the prestigious Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament held annually in Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. She has been featured on ESPN's Big Game Fishing with some great action footage. Bring along your camera and shoot some action footage of your own!

Captain Mike DeRego has over thirty years experience as a licensed captain and began fishing at a very young age with his dad, John DeRego.

Every year, Mike always seems to catch a special fish on his birthday; here is a historic 560 lb. Blue Marlin caught on his 16th.

Ride in comfort on Maggie Joe's spacious back deck, relax on the bridge, or cruise inside the air-conditioned cabin, but be ready to hop in the chair!

Sportfishing in Hawaii means year round great weather and lots of fish. Hawaiian fishing includes several species of marlin, tuna, mahi (dorado), and ono(wahoo) at any time of the year. We never know when the big one is going to bite!
